Illuminations

I have to de-clutter a bit around the office. There are too many random objects that have no business being near my work area. Like, a light bulb for instance. I really should dispose of it.

“But what if I need it later?,” I invariably ask myself. I know that I won’t need it. I should probably test it out to see if it even works, and then decide what to do with it.

Maybe tomorrow.

And so, it continues.

Reset

Starting the day with a renewed appreciation for all of the important people and things in life. There are too many other distractions and competing calls for our attention, and there’s just so little time to devote to what’s really important.

Put away any thoughts of your busy schedule, the dread of some impending deadline, and the constant doom-scrolling on some social media app. Instead, remember to reset your priorities and become aware, again, of all of the good things that are around you.

Life’s a journey. Why not hum a little?

Humming old movie tunes from different eras has seemingly become a random thing that I do. Sometimes it’s old Hollywood, sometimes it’s Bollywood, and other times it’s an Ennio Morricone classic from a spaghetti Western.

There’s no rhyme or reason behind any of it. Only appreciation of the tune. And an earworm that’ll last me the better part of a day.

Realizing that things that might have bothered you in the past no longer have that effect. Time has brought with it some new perspective, and your awareness of what’s really important automatically take over now in moments such as these.

The things that might have created a conflict in the past no longer carry any weight at all.

And that’s pretty freeing.

Unexpected gifts

Appreciating a wonderfully unexpected gift from a friend yesterday. This is a duplicate copy of a book that my tattoo artist had ordered. She’s interested in writing fiction and is going through this book series by the best-selling authors and writing coaches, Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi.

She thought of me when she had this extra to give to someone, and I was genuinely moved by the gesture.

And while I don’t have any plans to create a novel any time soon, it’s going to be fun reading through this, and digging deeper into it in time.

There may come a day where I put what I learn from this book into practice.

Book cover for, "The Positive Trait Thesaurus: A Writer's Guide to Character Attributes".

One at a time

Finding that the mind is often brimming with ideas of new projects, new interests, and other mini projects to start up.

There are too many.

It’s better to give your full attention into just one of those things at a time. To not even entertain the idea of there being “something better” that you should be doing with your time when you’re in this mindset. To give one special thing your all.

The other things may get their turn in time, or they may not. But all that matters is giving the current thing the full attention it deserves.

There is more than enough beauty in that.

The in-between work

Thinking about puppy training class later today. It’s the third class out of five for leash training. And as with any other type of education that you put your pet, or even yourself though, all of the benefits come from the work that’s done in between the lessons.

That’s where the real growth comes.

Cloudy Tuesday mornings

Walking the dog in the early morning to pick up some coffee and get some fresh air. Even the mosquitos can’t ruin a morning like this one.

Focus

Focusing on a single book at the moment, despite having a few other things I also want to do. This is the book, as briefly mentioned yesterday.
